Modeling of Root System Architecture Based on in situ 3D Laser Scanning and Its Application to Research on P Uptake in Rice
Modeling is an efficient way to study the quantification of plant root architecture. In the present study, a specific root growth system and a 3D laser scanner were used to acquire in situ data for modeling of plant root system, thus enabling us to obtain the digital model of 3D root architecture, based on which some major root architecture parameters could be calculated. Our method has successfully been applied to study plant growth and P acquisition, thus providing a new tool for further study on the growth and nutritional functions of plant root systems.
