Recent Advances in Agrobacterium Rhizogenes Mediated Transformation for Root Biology Studies
Agrobacterium rhizogenes mediated transformation has been extensively used in dicots to produce transformed hairy roots. Different transformation protocols have been developed for hairy root transformation. These protocols vary from their complexity to simplicity for the production of transformed hairy roots to study root biology, microbial interactions, and functional analysis of genes using over expression or suppression of genes. The difference between hairy root transformation protocols is mainly based upon the type of explants and subsequently the growth conditions but sonication and acetosyringone have been also used to enhance A. rhizogenes efficiency ( Kumar et al. , 2006 ). There are three major ways for the production of transformed hairy roots as described below.
