Weathering Process of Rocks and Safety Measures against Slope Failures

摘要：

This paper concerns the slope instability problems that occurred and will further occur as a consequence of the Wenchuan earthquake. Laboratory tests were carried out first to understand that surface weathering has made rock vulnerable to failure and that the strength is correlated easily with measurable parameters. Second, an idea of early warning of slope failure is proposed. These two ideas can reduce the cost of safety reconstruction in such a vast earthquake-affected area.
