Study on Seismic Behavior of Completely Overlapped Tubular K-Joints under Fire

In this paper, the findings of an analytical study on the seismic behavior of the completely overlapped tubular K-joints were presented under fire when the lap brace was under the axial load. The energy analysis indicated that the local buckling at the intersection area was the main energy-dissipating mechanism. An extensive finite-element analysis showed that increasing the lap brace diameter could improve the hysteretic performance of the joint while changing the gap size and the wall thickness of the through brace would have limited effects at elevated temperatures. It could also be seen that with the temperature rising, the energy-dissipating performance of the completely overlapped tubular K-joints at elevated temperatures was poorer than at ambient temperature. And the higher the joint temperature, the less energy was dissipated by the completely overlapped tubular K-joint.
