Study on the Relationship of Seismic Ability Reserve Coefficient and Destruction Degree for Brick Masonry Structure

The seismic damage investigation of 5 · 12 Wenchuan Earthquake indicate that the earthquake destruction degree of brick masonry structure in disaster area is quite difference, such as the traditional small-sized dwelling unit, the school teaching building and the large bay residence. The concept of seismic ability reserve coefficient for wall of brick masonry structure is proposed in this article firstly; According to the classified calculation for brick masonry building in disaster area, the seismic ability reserve coefficient is obtained that correspond to each segment wall of various brick masonry structure; on this basis, corresponding to actual damage state of building in seismic site, the relationship of seismic ability reserve coefficient and destruction degree of the wall is put forward. The research contents of this article is available to the research of performance-based seismic design for brick masonry structure, and is available to structural designer.
