Study on the Safety Appraisement Method and Strengthening Technology of Shop-With-Home Style Buildings Damaged in Wenchuan Earthquake

Most of Shop-With-Home Style buildings which had been built a lot in Mianzhu City were severely destroyed in Wenchuan Earthquake. Referring to the appraisement of a typical building with this type, this paper carried out studies on the safety inspection method, seismic capability and reliability appraisement process, seismic damage mechanism and strengthening technology of Shop-With-Home Style building, based on the summarizing and analyzing of its earthquake damages. Earthquake damages of such buildings were mostly found in the masonry structure elements on ground floor: severe cracks or even partial collapse of brick walls, shear failures or even concrete crisp and reinforcement bending of structural columns. Considering the demand of seismic capability and reliability appraisement, inspections were primarily carried out on structural measures of the mass structure. Compound seismic capability of building was appraised according to the results of first level appraisement and its performance in earthquake. And reliability appraisement mainly based on its earthquake damages and the results of seismic appraisement. The basic reason of such buildings earthquake damages is its unreasonable structural systems; so we suggest reconstructing the structural system into primer-frame masonry structure. All we do could be used as a reference to seismic and reliability appraisement or strengthening design of buildings damaged in earthquake or ordinary ones.
