Damage Assessment of Reticulated Shell under Seismic Ezcitations by Using Empirical Mode Decomposition
The damage detection on sudden degradation of reticulated shell subjected to strong earthquake by using empirical mode decomposition is actively carried out in this study. A damage detection approach is developed for detecting the damage time instant and location of sudden change of structural stiffness. A real reticulated shell constructed in China is taken as an example to numerically assess the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed detection approach for the reticulated shell. The sensitivity of the damage index to the intensity of measurement noise is also investigated. The results indicate that the damage time instant and location in the building due to a sudden loss of stiffness can be accurately identified using the proposed damage approach if measurement noise is below a certain level.
