Evaluation of Seismic Performance of a Pre-1970 Bridge Column Based on E-Defense Shake Table Ezperiment
This paper describes a shake table experiment on a typical column built in the 1970s based on the seismic coefficient method assuming the seismic coefficient of 0.23. E-Defense which is the world largest shake table was used for the excitation. A 7.5 m tall 1.8 m diameter column was excited twice using a near-field ground motion which was recorded during the 1995 Kobe, Japan earthquake. Both experimental and analytical findings are presented.
