Design of Hybrid Isolation System for Bridges on Xian International Airport Ezpressway
In this paper, two-stage design of the seismic performance of bridge in Xian airport expressway is done according to the new Guidelines for Seismic Design of Highway Bridges. Because of the disadvantage in seismic of pot rubber bearing , alternatives include rubber bearing and lead rubber bearing supporting system are used to prolong the natural period and disperse the earthquake force in piers. The results of elastic response spectrum analysis show that the whole structure remains elasticity under medium earthquake with the help of the two alternative supporting systems. While under large earthquake, the displacements of bearings and the moments at the foot of piers in rubber bearing system almost meet the upper limits. While in lead rubber bearing system, displacements of bearings remain working stage and the piers remain elastic stage. Lead rubber bearing system is used, multidirectional joints and unseating prevention cables are used to help LRB to form a hybrid isolation system, so that the bridge could meet the new two-stage seismic fortification criterion, and may even survive under huge unexpected earthquake.
