Numerical Modeling of Wave Propagation in Jointed Rock Masses Using Discrete Element Method
This paper is to investigate the wave propagation in jointed rock mass by using the DEM code UDEC and 3DEC. The wave propagation in intact rock and mesh size effect on the computational result is firstly examined The wave transmission and reflection at single and multiple joints is then studied and compared with analytical solutions. Based on the above, a case study of blast wave propagation in jointed rock masses is carried out and the computational achievement is applied to the design of the rock pillar in an underground space.
