Adenosine induces G2/M cell-cycle arrest by inhibiting cell mitosis progress

Adenosine is the product of ATP degradation when cell undergoes various stresses, and many researches focus on the anti-inflammation of adenosine. Few papers about adenosine concern cell cycle. Cell cycle is the essential mechanism by which all living lives reproduce and it is also one key regulatory target machinery when cells encounter stresses, so it is necessary to examine the detail relationship between adenosine existence and cell cycle. In the present study, adenosine was found to induce G2/M cell-cycle arrest. Furthermore, adenosine was found to modulate the expression of some cell cycle decisive proteins such as cyclin B and p21, the phosphorylation of CDC2, and thus inhibit the transition of metaphase to anaphase of mitosis.
