Selective separation of chlorogenic acids from tobacco waste by solvent eztraction
Chlorogenic acids are important organic acids widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other industries, which have been shown to exhibit various biological and pharmacological properties. In order to look for new technology of downstream processing for chlorogenic acids (chlorogenic acid, neochlorogenic acid and cryptochlorogenic acid) separation from tobacco waste extract (TWE), selective extraction of chlorogenic acids and other impurities using solvent extraction method with 12 varieties of solvents were carried out, the distribution coefficient (KD), recovery (R), separation factor (β), and equilibrium experiments at various temperatures were described by Henry model. The results showed that ethyl acetate when used as extractant, was found to give higher β value and also prevents good recovery for chlorogenic acids. The data obtained is useful in the designing of solvent extraction process for the recovery of chlorogenic acids from tobacco waste extract.
