Sperm protein 17 highly ezpressed in endometrial and cervical cancers

This study investigated Sp17 expression in endometrial and cervical cancer specimens, analyzed its possible correlation with pathological characteristics and evaluated its value in diagnosis and immunotherapy of cancers correlated. Recombinant human Sp17 protein and mouse monoclonal antibodies against Sp17 were produced for analysis. Paraffin embedded malignant tumor specimens were studied using immunohistochemistry. Sp17 is expressed in the cancer specimens from 66% (33/50) endometrial cancer, 61% (19/31) cervical cancer patients. The expression pattern was heterogeneous in cancer samples, and did not correlate with the histological subtype and degree of malignancy. Although there was no statistically significant relation between Sp17 expression and clinicopathological characteristics of malignancy, high expression of Sp17 in cancer tissues indicates it is an attractive target for molecular imaging diagnosis and antigen-specific immunotherapy in these patients.
