A Modified LOD Terrain Model Based on QuadTree Algorithm
Considering the different characters of ROAM algorithm and QuadTree Algorithm, a new Multi-Resolution level of Detail (LOD) Model for large-scale terrain real-time display is presented in this paper. Based on easy realized QuadTree algorithm, the partitioning strategy of ROAM is adopted, and then a new view to model distance computational method is defined. Meanwhile, a refinement method for filling crack and avoiding pops is introduced. Simulation results show that it has better ability of simplifying terrain, and still keeps a rapid displaying speed like the other LOD Models.
