Coarse-grain Architectures from Business Requirements: an Organsational Semiotics Approach
More than 70% of the IT projects in UK fail every year, more than 80% fail at the requirement analysis phase. Semantic Analysis (SA) is a business requirements analysis method that attempts to reduce failures in requirement analysis. This paper attempts to apply Model Driven Architecture (MDA) ideas. We transform SA ontologies to component-and-connector models in the UML2 superstructure. The nature of the transformation preserve the requirements specification at the coarse-grain architectural design level. Preservation is achieved by mapping the ontological representation of actors and communication acts to components and connectors, respectively. Our transformations also preserve the scalability benefits of Semantic Normal Form compliance at the design level.
