Chinas Strategy in Asian Monetary Cooperation

Economic globalization requires all countries to strengthen international economic cooperation especially monetary cooperation. Compared with global monetary cooperation, regional monetary cooperation develops more rapidly, and as we know, the EU has provided a successful model of regional integration. After the Asian financial crisis, Asian countries began to foster and strengthen financial and monetary cooperation, and have made some progress in this field. However, compared to Europe, the development of Asian monetary cooperation was slow. As the great Asian economic and political power, what role should China play in East Asian monetary cooperation? This paper uses the SWOT analysis method to summarize Chinas situation and status in East Asian monetary cooperation. China is facing opportunities as well as domestic and foreign threats by participating in East Asia monetary cooperation. China will need to push forward in a gradual and orderly way the process of East Asian monetary cooperation, and to promote the regions stability and prosperity.
