Northeast Asian Community: Overleaping FTA
Northeast Asia remains the only region that does not have a region-wide RTA among the major economic regions in the world. However, functional economic integration seems to have proceeded rather robustly in the region. The proposal of CJK FTA was based on the traditional theories, European and American experiences and the rise of trade interdependency among the three countries. But CJK FTA is currently at a stalemate and hopeless in the near future. In light of the current political relations between the three countries, a community overleaping FTA, with exception of free trade, might be advisable.
