The Third Way of the Korean Economy: Institution Building for Sustainable Growth
In order to achieve sustainable growth, it is necessary to solve two major problems of the Korean Economy, that is, low growth and polarization. Low growth and polarization were the products of the first great transformations after the 1987 civil protests and workers struggles and the second great transformation after the 1997 financial crisis. After the two great transformations, now it is certain that the developmental state is no longer workable and neoliberalism is not sustainable. Therefore, the Third Way beyond the developmental state and neoliberalism is needed for sustainable growth. Institution building such as innovation-led shared growth, welfare community and learnfare, solidaristic knowledge policy, flexicurity of the labor market, new corporate governance, and a social compromise are needed for the Third Way of the Korean economy.
