BILATERAL TRUSS-ARCH MODEL FOR OBLIQUE SHEAR STRENGTH OF RECTANGULAR FRAME COLUMN

Experiment to investigate shear strength of rectangular frame column subjected to oblique horizontal load was carried out. 14 rectangular frame columns which load angles are 0 degree, 15 degree, 30 degree, 45 degree, 60 degree, 75 degree and 90 degree, are subjected to recycle reversal or monotonic horizontal load. Based on truss-arch model, a bilateral truss-arch model for bilateral shear strength of rectangular frame column is developed by introducing a reduced coefficient of bilateral compressive strength of concrete. Bilateral truss-arch model considering most elements affecting shear strength can explain stress performance and failure mechanics of rectangular frame column subjected to oblique horizontal load. Furthermore the bilateral truss-arch model was found to provide good estimates of oblique shear strength for rectangular frame columns by comparing theoretical predictions and experiment results.
