TEST STUDY OF CONCRETE-MASONRY COMPOSITE UNDERPINNING BEAM
In upgrading, repairing and renovation of masonry structures, due to change of serviceability function, sometime partial masonry walls need to be dismantled. In order to secure the safety of the structures during construction and lifetime, underpinning beam must be constructed to support the up structural members. Traditionally the supplemental support measurement must be taken during the underpinning beam construction. The procedure of this method is to erect supplemental supports firstly, then to dismantle the walls, and to construct the underpinning beam finally. But it is prove that there are safety crisis and non-economical in practice. During walls dismantling, the structural safety depends on supplement support only. To solve this problem, an innovative approach-Masonry Concrete Composite Underpinning Beam (MCCUB) has been developed. Using MC Composite underpinning beam, supplemental support does not need. Walls dismantlement is done after MC Composite underpinning beam construction. In this paper, the MC composite underpinning beam is introduced. The load carrying capacity of MC composite underpinning beam has been tested. By experimental study, the mechanical characteristic of the beam has been discussed. Design and construction suggestions of the beam have been made.
