THE DAMAGING EFFECTS OF ATMOSPHERIC CHLORIDE ION ON THE CONCRETE STRUCTURE

The ingress of chloride ion into reinforced concrete structure causes steel corrosion, volume expansion of the concrete structure, further causes the safety reliability of the concrete to drop and makes it risky. Under the coastal environment, lots of chloride ions exist in the sea water and the atmosphere, so they are easily deposited on the surface of concrete, and penetrate into the internal structure. The experiment selected one of the representative reinforced concrete structures in a coastal area, and took samples in typical spots to detect the quantity of accumulated deposition of the atmospheric chloride in this concrete structure. The result indicates that the deposition of atmospheric chloride ion is obvious in the concrete structure, the quantities of chloride ion deposition are large in the selected sample structures, all surpassing the critical chloride ion concentration that may cause corrosion.
