PARTICIPATORY MECHANISM AND MEDIA DATA PORTAL FOR VISUAL IMAGE ANALYSIS

The paper introduces an idea of the open-source GeoTruth Geo Media Data Engine - a Web-based, worldwide community-open participatory mechanism for collection, storage and distribution of geo-referenced ground truth terrestrial photographs and corresponding metadata to assist the interpretation of remotely sensed imagery. The paper elaborates on issues of the effectiveness of collaborative and participatory mechanisms in open community and professional societies. The paper explores the technological and implementation issues of the GeoTruth system, including architecture for geo-compatible exchange, analysis and visualization of annotated ground truth photographs.
