LIDAR AIRCRAFT SYSTEM-METHOD CHARACTERISTICS AND PROSPECTS OF APPLICATION IN GEOGRAPHICAL INVESTIGATIONS.

The following article deals with the method of LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) aircraft system. This method allows decoding and determining of exact spatial position of the most of objects and gives the accurate information about their geometrical characteristics. Such kind of detailed information makes method important for composition of land surface digital elevation model (DEM) and maps with the scale 1:25000 - 1:2000 and more detail. Basic characteristics of this method are presented in this article. Opportunities of joint use with the other methods of remote sensing and prospects of given method application in geographical researches are considered too. Besides, we analyzed the main trends in development of technologies and processing of LIDAR materials, as well as the principle of LIDAR bathymetry and space shooting.
