ANALYSIS OF TOURIST MAPS AND EXPERIENCE OF RECREATIONAL-TOURIST MAPPING

Development of tourism and recreation in many regions of Russia fosters the construction of maps clearly demonstrating the resources, infrastructure, objects of human recreation and health improvement. Currently a rich variety of maps, plans, booklets, guide-books, atlases and other cartographic products on tourism are published. Maps vary in content, plotting and images used. One of the most important problems in map analysis is to construct a classification model. Such a model can serve as a basis for the development of the relatively unified system of tourism mapping that will contribute to the revealing of interrelations between different objects and the formation of realistic and pictorial spatial image of the phenomena mapped. The analysis of more than 50 tourist-recreational maps published in 1970 - 2006 for different regions of Russia (25 regions).
