SIMULATION STUDY ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TWO-STAGE ENTRAINED FLOW GAS1FIERS VIA TWO-FLUID HYDRODYNAMIC MODELS
The gasification industry has identified improved performance of entrained flow gasifiers as a requirement for Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants to be commercially viable. Review papers by Ni 1 and Elseviers 2 identified several items that could lead to improved reliability, availability and maintainability of solid fuel gasifiers. Gasifiers involve complex physical and chemical phenomena including fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions. Through gasification, coal is reacted to form CO/H2 rich syngas that undergoes processing before entering gas turbines or fuel cells. Better understanding of how these are impacted by operational changes such as fuel type, slurry content and oxidizer flow would be highly beneficial.
