Steam methane reforming (SMR) of natural gas is the predominant production route to hydrogen for commercial scale application 1. For methane, the overall reaction is:CH4 + 2 H2O ←→ CO2+ 4H2 H298 0 = 165 kJ/mol (1)However, the SMR process includes multiple-steps (reforming→high temperature water-gas shift→low temperature water-gas shit→CO2 separation) and the reaction conditions are severe.
