CATALYTIC UPGRADING OF BIOMASS FAST PYROLYSIS VAPORS IN A FLUIDIZED BED WITH FRESH AND SPENT FCC CATALYSTS
Environmental issues and the security of energy supply, especially petroleum resources, have stimulated interest in the development of alternatives for fossil based energy carriers. Plant biomass is the only current sustainable source that could be converted into liquid fuels 1-2. Biomass fast pyrolysis can produce considerable liquid fuel named as bio-oil, and yield up to 75% was reported 3. However, the direct application of bio-oil is limited by the problems of high oxygen content, high viscosity, corrosion and its thermal instability.
