KINETICS OF SOYBEAN OIL TRANSESTERIFICATION IN SUBCRITICAL METHANOL CATALYZED BY ZINC ACETATE

Transesterification of vegetable oil with methanol (MeOH) has been a preferred method for producing biodiesel fuel. Generally speaking, there are two methods of transesterification reaction. One method is using catalyst and the other is without the help of catalyst. The former method mainly uses acid, alkali and enzyme catalysts1. The researchers have done a lot of work to study reaction kinetics of the two methods. Such as, Freedman et al. 2 studied transesterification kinetics of soybean oil (SBO); rate constants have been determined for each reaction with a computerized kinetic program.
