Adaptive procedure to control VSI for small power IM drives

Variable voltage source inverters (VSI) are often used in low cost solutions drives with induction motors (IM). A proper calculation of electromagnetic torque pulsations based on consideration of variations for nonlinear multiplication, different from the well-known expression of pulsations based on stator flux and current variations respectively, is proposed. The torque pulsation is then superimposed to the averaged value to describe completely the existing internal pulsations in torque for small power IM drives. By considering voltage and frequency variation the smallest volt per hertz ratio for a given drive, an off line adaptive voltage control is proposed to minimize mechanical dynamics. Experimental voltages measured with a real time digital oscilloscope are presented.
