Single Phase Grid Connected PV System Used as Active Filter

In this paper, a novel single phase utility grid connected to photovoltaic power generation, used as an active filter, is presented. Its main feature is the capability to compensate the reactive and harmonic currents drawn by nonlinear loads while simultaneously injecting into the grid, the maximum power available from the PV array with RCC MPPT controller. The system can also operate as a stand alone active filter. The system was connected to a 2.5 kw PV array and simulated with a single phase nonlinear load. The simulation results show that the system can correct the power factor close to unity value and good compensation of the current drawn by non linear loads. Thereby improving the efficiency of the electric energy supply can be achieved.
