A Simple Modular Permanent Magnet Transverse Fluz Generator

The permanent magnet transverse flux (PMTF) machine operates at low speed and is capable of producing power densities larger than the ones produced by conventional machines. In this paper, a not so complicated permanent magnet transverse flux machine structure, with a quasi 2D flux pattern, is proposed. Such a PMTF machine can be an excellent option for low and medium power low speed gearless generators since it can be built in a modular structure. A sizing-designing algorithm is developed and, for a sample generator, the performances are calculated and compared with that obtained via 3D finite element method (FEM) analysis.
