CONVERSION OF COAL-N DURING PYROLYSIS AND GASIFICATION
The continued use of coal as a reliable and cheap energy source in the future will depend on the minimisation of its environmental impacts. The emissions of both CO2 and other air pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen (NO, NO2 and N2O) must be reduced to comply with the increasingly stringent environmental standards. Understanding the transformation of fuel-N during pyrolysis and gasification is an important part of the development of advanced gasification-based power generation technologies. This paper aims to provide a brief overview of some recent advances in the understanding of coal-N conversion during pyrolysis and gasification, biased towards the authors own work.
