EXPERIMENT ON PARTICLE MIXING IN FLAT-BOTTOM SPOUTED BED
The mixing behaviors of spherical particles in a flat-bottom spouted bed with a cross section of 0.1m×0.03m and height of 0.5m were investigated. Colored particle sharing the same physical property as the bed material was used as the tracer particle. The tracer particle concentration was obtained by means of a boxing-counting method and digital image processing based technique. In addition, the standard deviation was used to assess the quality of particle mixing. Results reveal that the particle mixing process can be divided into three sequential stages based on time: macro mixing stage, micro mixing stage and stable mixing stage, which can be observed experimentally easily. Tracer particle characteristic concentration in the bottom region is less than that in the upper region and one in the annulus dense region is considerably greater than in the fountain region for vs/vms=1.2. The increasing spouting gas velocity improves the quality of particle mixing within a certain range. But once beyond the range, the particle mixing worsens.
