PRESSURE BALANCE IN A CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED

The study of pressure balance is important to describe the fluid dynamics and control the material balance in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB). In this paper, a series of experiments have been conducted with pressure measurement along the CFB loop in a cold rig under different fluidizing gas velocities, bed inventory, circulating rates, and aeration rates. The influence of different parameters on riser pressure drop and axial suspension density profile was discussed. Besides the pressure drop inside the riser, special attention was paid to the exit pressure drop and cyclone pressure drop. Correlations between the exit pressure drop and circulating rate was assessed, which provide a convenient way to obtain circulating rate through exit pressure drop measurement for a certain CFB apparatus. Experiments also found that the cyclone pressure drop increases linearly with circulating rate at a given fluidizing gas velocity.
