EFFECT OF PRESSURE ON COAL WATER SLURRY GASIFICATION
Nearly all modern, large-scale coal gasifiers are operated under pressurized condition due to the considerable advantages on product gas composition, yield and cold gas efficiency with elevated pressures. In this paper, the pressure effect on the composition of the product gases in the coal water slurry (CWS) gasifier was analyzed in an equilibrium system and in a non-equilibrium system respectively. The comparison between the composition of the product gas obtained by thermal equilibrium calculation results and that from practical gasifier is performed. For a thermal equilibrium system, the composition of product gas is calculated based on thermodynamic and chemical equilibrium. It was found that under thermal equilibrium condition, the concentrations of CO and H2 decrease as pressure increases, however, the reactions in practical gasifier shift to the direction of producing more CO and H2 due to the reaction is far from thermal equilibrium. The effect of the operation parameters on the gasification process is strongly coupled with the reaction mechanisms in the gasifier.
