PATENT ANALYSIS OF INTEGRATED GASIFICATION COMBINED CYCLE
According to recent rapidly increasing energy consumption trends in Korea, the demand for electric power generation by gaseous fuel will be further increased in the future. However, with the finite outlook of natural gas resource, electricity generation utilities have to largely depend upon coal-derived syngas from IGCC (integrated gasification combined cycle) system since it ensures cost-effective and environmentally sound options for supplying future power generation needs. The demand for IP (intellectual property) is increasing in businesses and researches due to the rapid shift to a knowledge-based economy around the world. The KIPO (Korea Intellectual property office) has analyzed the patent of IGCC technology with technology experts group. And also that result has been applied to the use of Korea type 300MW IGCC plant construction project. This paper offers coal technology researchers on patent management and on ways of using patent information on IGCC technology. The patent of Korea, EU, and US on IGCC field are steady applied. The application trend in Japan show fluctuations within analysis scope, but gradually decreases recently. The patents of gasification technology of IGCC show the largest application on Korea, EU, US and Japan.
