Improved FOA/TOA Estimation in Cospas-sarsat MEOSAR System
This paper deals with several key points including parameter estimation such as time of arrival (TOA) .frequency of arrival( FOA) estimation algorithm and signal processing techniques in Medium-altitude Earth Orbit Local User Terminals ( MEOLUT) based on Cospas-Sarsat Medium-altitude Earth Orbit Search and Rescue system (MEOSAR). Based on an analytical description of distress beacon in terms of signal structure, modulation and Bit Error Rate( BER) , improved TOA and FOA estimation methods have been proposed. The improved FOA estimation method which integrates bi-FOA measurement , FFT method, Rife algorithm and Gaussian window is proposed to improve the accuracy of FOA estimation. In addition, TPD algorithm, diversity and correlation techniques are used to achieve a high performance of TOA estimation. These signal processing techniques is able to solve the parameter estimation problem under quite poor Carrier-to-Noise( C/N0). A number of simulations using the improved FOA/TOA estimation methods are performed to show the improvement achieved. FOA and TOA estimation error are lower than 0. 1 Hz and 7μs respectively which is very high system requirement for MEOSAR system MEOLUT. The improved FOA/TOA estimation methods are easy to implement, accurate to estimate and good to assure stability.
