The Application of ESSOS Ⅱ in the Structural Optimization of Truss Satellite

ESSOS Ⅱ , secondary developed on the MSC. Patran/Nastran platform and with Nastran as structural analysis module,is an engineering structural optimization system applied to spacecraft structural design. ESSOS Ⅱ has been used to calculate a lot of instances in the field of spacecraft engineering , and acquired superior, effects. There are many advantages of truss structure, such as lighter mass and simpler structural design. It is an important study field of satellite structural design in China. This paper establishes the FEM model of a truss satellite structure according to the structure of HS702 satellite, belonged to the America Hughes Corporation. ESSOS Ⅱ and Patran/Nastran are utilized to optimize the structure of the truss satellite. The results demonstrate that ESSOS Ⅱ can achieve lighter mass with less iterative time compared to Nastran. This case shows that the ESSOS Ⅱ is practical and efficient. The optimization results provide some basis for the engineering department about structural design of truss satellite.
