A Study of Cathode Catalyst for the Aluminium/Hydrogen Perozide Semi-fuel Cell

The cathode catalyst of the aluminium/hydrogen peroxide semi-fuel cell was studied in this paper. There were 14 different cathodes used in the experiment, in order to investigate 5 kinds of catalyst ;stainless steel,Ni, Au, Ag and Pd. The catalyst Au, Ag and Pd were electrochemical deposited on the plane and reticulated Ni substrate. The results showed Ag outperform other catalyst, especially deposited on the reticulated Ni substrate. Polarization experiment of the single cell achieved an open circuit voltage of 1.04 V, a maximal current density of 84 mA/cm2, and a maximal power density of 31 mW/cm2 using 2.5% H2O2 and 2 mol/L NaOH. According to the performance,Ag is the best catalyst, and then is the catalyst Pd,Au,stainless steel,Ni is the worst one. Results also indicated that the performance of cathode use reticulated substrate is better than the plane substrate.
