Performance Analysis of Welded Bellows in Cryogenic Environment

Welded bellows is a component welded by diaphragm, top and bottom head. Its key element is diaphragm cluster which is circumferential welded by couples of diaphragms. In order to adapt to the hypothermia environment, the diaphragms are usually made by face-centered cubic material, like austenite stainless steel, etc. For Welded bellows has better compliance, longer life and better pressurization,it is widely used in large-scale liquid rocket, for dynamic sealing,or pipeline fluctuation pressure suction, etc. Although welded bellows is widely used in the rockets,it is still in the exploring stage due to the complicated environment and structure. Now the perturbation method on axisymmetric annulus shell is often used. The bellows used in this paper is welded by plasma arc welding,so the brim may inevitably have welded bulge, therefore the paper first considered the influence of the welded bulge. The key characters of welded bellows are rigidity, strength stability and fatigue life, so this paper mainly performed the analyses of rigidity, strength stability and fatigue performance on certain welded bellows in cryogenic environment, and compared test results to provide theoretical basis for actual designing and using of welded bellows.
