Radiation Effects in Light-emitting Diodes and Laser Diodes Used in Space Communication System
Since several years now,photonic technology is considered for communication and monitoring application in spaceborne systems. A major problem which arises when dealing with space environment is the ionizing radiation. This paper discusses radiation effects of light-emitting diodes( LEDs) and laser diodes ( LDs) used in space communication system. The main parameters ( such as output spectra and powers,the curves of voltage versus ampere etc.) were measured at several radiate doses irradiated in Co-60 γ rays from 0 to 1×106 rad(Si).
