Comparative Study on Regional Innovation Systems and its Implication for the Linkage of the Regional Clusters between China and Japan

This paper analyzes leading cases of China-Japan collaboration from the view point of regional innovation systems (RIS). Based on the best practices of RIS in 11 regions in the world, the importance of the linkage between a regional system and the global economy was suggested. If we can build up a linkage between regional systems of China and Japan, it will create a new potential for the development of these economies. There are already some leading cases such as collaboration between Chinese universities and Japanese firms or Japanese universities, or cooperation between incubators in China and Japan. Furthermore, there are many students form China studying in Japanese universities and they could be the key for building up a network of brain circulation between the regions in both countries.
