Medical Care System Reform and Governance of Doctor-patient Relationships

The 2005 State Council Development Research Center report pointed out that the medical care system reform conducted in China failed in general1 Seeing a doctor being difficulty and expensiveissue existed when the reform began, while currently it is gettingworse. This article analyzes Chinas medical care system reform in the aspect of informational economics and institutional economics, and points out that the main factors lead to the failure of medical care system reform are information asymmetry, institutional barriers and interest groups holding back; the root of the failure is information asymmetry. In doctor-patient relationship management, government should establish an information symmetric environment and design a proper compensation mechanism in order to break the interest relationship between hospitals and medicine industry.
