A Study on the Effectiveness of National R&D Investment in China
In this paper, an empirical study investigating the effectiveness of national R&D investment on the nations economic growth and development in China is described. In the study, the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model is used to examine and analyze the related data collected from 1985 to 2003 in terms of the trend and changes of the effectives of national R&D investment. The result indicates that during last two decades, the national R&D investment in China had not made a satisfactory contribution to the nations economic development as it has been expected. It also revealed that the R&D investments in different sectors have shown different effectiveness, and the proportion from corporate R&D expenditure is proven to be more significantly important to the nations economic development. Managerial implications and suggestions are discussed respectively.
