COMPUTERIZED FARM GUIDE: USING ICT FOR BETTER DISSEMINATION OF AGRICULTURE EXTENSION INFORMATION
This paper discusses a Computerized Farm Guide (CFG) which will enhance the existing methodology of dissemination of Extension: information to mostly illiterate and small farm holders using text, audio, video and images. CFG will be a guide for the mostly illiterate farmers who will be able to navigate through the application with the help of a touch screen system in a kiosk environment. Unlike Extension personnel, CFG will be literally available 24 hrs a day and shall bridge the seemingly ever-increasing gap between researchers and the end users. This project is not crop specific and can be used for deploying information for any crop with available data. The application will have two approaches for supporting Extension (i) educational and (ii) diagnostic. The project will go a long way in the national efforts for increased agricultural productivity and better life standards in rural Pakistan through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and techniques.
