GEOREFERENCED SPATIAL MULTIMEDIA APPLICATION IN AGRICULTURAL AND BIORESOURCE ENGINEERING

Georeferenced images and video have allowed grounding-truth visual information to accompany the digital geographic information embedded in the GIS for agricultural and bioresource management. The new technologies-VMS involving Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have revolutionized the data collection, storage, manipulation and display of features useful for agricultural and Bioresource engineering. This paper will present georeferenced spatial multimedia application, their data collection procedures for agricultural engineering and natural resource management. Satellite-based differential GPS information is collected on the audio track of a digital camcorder using the Red Hen Systems VMS Professional. Georeferenced still images and video clips from the fields were captured and incorporated into the GIS to develop a database of soil and plants, natural resource management, and recreation features, and exported in HTML format. Applications involving crop field investigation near by Jiangsu University, Colorado State Parks, Rocky Mountain National Park, off-road vehicle tracking and underwater video mapping have been explored. Captured features are determined for different applications such as pest control, plant growing, trail mapping, erosion control structures, signs, bridges, water sources and scenic views. This presentation also demonstrates the precise-decision making, and intelligent monitor of agriculture environment, based on georeferenced spatial multimedia in agricultural industry.
