DESIGN AND APPLICATION OF SELF-CONSOLIDATING LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETES

In this study,self-consolidating lightweight concretes(SCLCs)are designed using a combination of the excessive paste theory and American Concrete Institute(ACI)guidelines for the design of conventional structural lightweight concrete.Glass powders and ASTM Class F fly ash are added to produce excessive paste to increase the flowability and segregation resistance of the concrete. The designed SCLC mixtures exhibit good flowability and segregation resistance. An SCLC mixture containing glass powder is poured into an insulated concrete form(ICF)system. The SCLC self-consolidates very well within ICF,but needs to be pumped into the form at close locations mainly due to the crowded plastic ties within the ICFs,which restricts the flow of the SCLC mixture.Visual examination of an exposed hardened SCLC end and drilled cores confirm that hardened SCLC does not have any defects on surface, and honeycomb or large voids around the plastic ties within the ICF.
