EFFECTS OF POLYMERS ON PROPERTIES OF UNDERWATER ANTI-WASHOUT SELF-COMPACTING CONCRETE
This paper presents the results from a study of effects of two types of anti-washout admixtures(AWA)on properties of underwater anti-washout self-compacting concrete, which are cellulose-based methylcellulose(MC)and polythene-based polyacrylamide(PA).It highlights the benefits and limitations of the different dosages of them on concrete properties with the methods of single addition and composite addition of MC and PA in appropriate proportion.Among the parameters, water demand, fluidity and self-compacting degree of concrete were evaluated. And the effects of the additions on the washout resistance and strength of underwater concrete cast by the trimie method were also studied.Test results show that AWAs can greatly reduce bleeding and significantly enhance resistance of concrete to water dilution and segregation. But they also result in significant air-entrainment,water demand and strength lose, and the effects increase with the increased AWA dosage. However, the washout resistance and strength of concrete with composite addition was far more excellent than those of concrete with single addition of MC or PL.With the appropriate proportion and dosage of MC and PL,excellent underwater anti-washout resistance and self-compacting ability of concrete can be obtained.
