Current Status and Future Directions of Fish Nutrition Research
1 Current status It has been estimated that perhaps as many as 300 different fish species are being cultured worldwide.Of these we have some nutritional requirement data on only about 50 species.We currently have nutritional requirement data on various freshwater,coldwater and marine species.In general,these requirement data can be used to formulate diets for similar freshwater,coldwater and marine species.Granted there are species differences that need to be identified but in the mean time one can utilize existing nutritional information to begin culturing a new species before the requirement data have been obtained for that new species.
