Ezperimental Study on Rock Damage in Slope Cut by Presplit Blasting
During the construction of Yichang-Wanzhou Railway, a blast damage study with cross-hole ultrasonic tests was carried out with two slopes that had the same geological conditions, slope angles and slope heights. Comparison was made between a slope blasted with presplit blasting and another slope blasted with ordinary small diameter hole blasting. The blast damage measurement was done on the rock face about 2.5 m above the ground in order to choose a representative rock condition. The study shows that the internal rock damage zone caused by ordinary small diameter hole blasting is 1.5 times larger than that of the presplit blasting. It also proves that presplit blasting can not only result in good profile and clean face of the slope, but also lead to the minimum rock damage, which is more conducive to the long-term stability of the slope.
